Braid Solitaire

Braid Solitaire also known as Herringbone or, Pigtail Solitaire is played with 2 decks of standard 52-cards set. The aim is to build four foundations by suit.

BRAID - 20 cards are dealt at the center in the form of a braid.

TABLEAU - 8 tableau piles, 4 on either side of the "braid". One card is dealt face-up to each of the 8 tableau piles.

RESERVE - 4 reserve piles, 2 on either side of the "braid". One card is dealt face-up to each of the 4 reserve piles.

FOUNDATION - Eight empty foundation piles. First foundation pile is dealt a card which acts as the lead rank for the game.

WASTE - One card is automatically dealt face-up to the waste pile.

STOCK - Remaining cards are set aside forming a stock pile.

  • The first foundation pile is dealt a card which acts as the lead rank. Remaining 7 piles must start from the same rank.
  • Foundation piles are built up by suit starting from the lead rank to the rank one below the lead rank, wrapping from King to Ace if required.
  • The tableau and reserve piles can only contain one card.
  • The top card of the braid can only be moved to any of the 4 reserve piles or, to the foundation.
  • Card from a reserve pile can only be moved to the foundation.
  • As soon as a reserve pile is empty, it is automatically filled using top card of the "braid". A reserve pile can be also filled using top card from the ground if the braid has no card left.
  • Player can click on the stock pile anytime which deals 1 card face-up onto the waste pile. Three redeals are allowed.
  • Top card from the ground can be moved to the foundation or, an empty tableau pile or, an empty reserve pile if no card is left in the braid.

The game is won once all cards are moved to the foundation piles.

  • Drag and drop cards between piles.
  • Click top card in the stock pile to draw card to the waste pile.
  • Single or Double click card in the waste pile, or the reserve pile, or any of the tableau piles to automatically move to the foundation.
  • Click empty stock pile to move cards from the waste pile to the stock pile.
